The Workplace Relations Commission ruled that Aqeel Farooq’s unfair dismissal complaint against University College Dublin was out of time and could not be heard, in a decision dated 12 January 2026. Farooq alleged he was constructively dismissed on 17 February 2023 and filed his complaint on 28 October 2024. The WRC found it was lodged about 20 months after the alleged dismissal, beyond the maximum 12-month limit. His attempts to resolve the matter did not provide reasonable cause for the delay. The decision addressed the time limit only; it did not decide whether he was an employee, whether he was dismissed or the merits of the allegation.
