WRC rejects unfair dismissal complaint after specialist role was removed

The Workplace Relations Commission has rejected Patrick J. Tyrrell’s unfair dismissal complaint against Fst Technical Services Llc, finding his redundancy resulted from a genuine operational change. The decision was dated 17 February 2026. Tyrrell argued the selection pool was too narrow, procedures were deficient and redeployment was not adequately considered. FST said its client removed off-site quality assurance from its contract, eliminating Tyrrell’s sole-incumbent specialist role. The WRC accepted the role was operationally distinct, found the wider selection pool unnecessary and concluded consultation, appeal and redeployment efforts were reasonable; no suitable alternative position existed.
