WRC awards Katie Houlihan €2,500 over treatment as part-time worker

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) awarded Katie Houlihan €2,500 after finding Fitzili Enterprises Limited treated her less favourably than a full-time worker when it stopped giving her hours. The decision was dated 28 March 2025.

Houlihan worked as a bartender, usually on weekends. She said she sought her regular hours after time away in summer 2024 but was told none were available. The company said her work was casual, with hours dependent on business needs and her availability. The WRC found her work was not casual and her contract failed to specify the hours reasonably expected of her, breaching employment rights.
