WRC rejects discrimination complaint as out of time

The Workplace Relations Commission found it could not hear Paulo Andre Simoes Lopes’s discrimination complaint against former employer Smartbox Group Limited because it was filed outside the statutory time limit. Adjudication Officer Eileen Campbell’s decision was dated 17 February 2025. The complaint alleged discrimination under the Employment Equality Act. Lopes said illness prevented him from filing sooner; the company disputed that explanation. The WRC found no reasonable cause to extend the deadline, and did not hear the discrimination allegations. No compensation was awarded.
