The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Mayo University Hospital to pay Karen Mc Hale €58,681.60 after finding she was constructively unfairly dismissed. The decision was dated 27 November 2025.

Mc Hale said she was left with no alternative but to resign after the hospital did not give her details of a complaint made against her and bypassed her in reporting lines. The hospital argued she should have used internal procedures before resigning. The adjudicator found the grievance process fundamentally flawed because Mc Hale could not examine or answer the complaint, and said a reasonable employer would not require her to use it before resigning.
