The Workplace Relations Commission found that Hajar Aqqa was unfairly dismissed by Beauty and Beef Limited and awarded her €5,080 gross compensation. In a decision dated 15 May 2026, it also upheld complaints over pay and working conditions, ordering additional payments for missed breaks, annual leave, public holidays, minimum-wage arrears, Sunday work and unpaid training wages.

Aqqa worked as a counter assistant in a takeaway restaurant from 20 January to 23 March 2024. She said she was dismissed after raising concerns about being paid below the minimum wage. The respondent attended earlier hearings but was absent at the final hearing and provided no evidence to justify the dismissal. The adjudicator found it unfair and said Aqqa had made no contribution to the termination.

The WRC also ordered €3,629.58 gross in minimum-wage arrears and €1,270 gross for two unpaid training weeks. Other awards covered rest breaks, annual leave, public holidays and Sunday work. Her complaints about working more than the permitted average hours and penalisation were not well-founded; eight other complaints were withdrawn.
