The WRC recommended that a hotel pay a chef €3,100 after finding it breached fair procedures before dismissing him. In a recommendation dated 15 November 2024, it said he was not told his job was at risk or given a fair chance to respond to allegations. The hotel said the chef was still in his probation period. The WRC found his contract had no probation clause, the employer had not communicated an extension before the initial period expired, and there was no evidence of a formal assessment. The recommendation took account of his being out of work until August 2024, when he found lower-paid employment.
