WRC awards Roy Sweeney €4,000 for unfair dismissal

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Roy Sweeney €4,000 after finding that Ck Roofing & Carpentry Ltd unfairly dismissed him. Adjudication Officer Andrew Heavey’s ruling was dated 15 April 2025. The company said it dismissed Sweeney for gross misconduct after unsafe conduct contributed to a workplace accident, and that its disciplinary process was fair. Sweeney said he had too little time and no fair opportunity to respond at the disciplinary meeting. The officer found that the company acted too quickly and should have considered lesser sanctions. He also found that Sweeney’s conduct significantly contributed to the dismissal and that he had not done enough to mitigate his losses.
