The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has ordered Dehac Retail t/a Costcutter to pay Amanda Clarke Butler €895.05 after finding it made an unauthorised deduction from her wages. The decision was dated 9 August 2024. Clarke Butler said her hours fell from 40 to 35 a week from 1 January 2024. She argued that her gross weekly pay should have been €660.65, but she was receiving €608. The respondent said they had agreed a net weekly wage of €600 and calculated pay for 35 hours at €15 an hour. The adjudication officer said wages must be calculated gross, with tax credits applied to work out net pay, and accepted Clarke Butler’s method. The WRC found a weekly shortfall of €52.65 over the 17-week period it could consider. The Payment of Wages Act complaint was upheld.
