The Workplace Relations Commission ordered J.J. Kavanagh & Sons Limited to pay €6,000 compensation after finding that a passenger’s daughter was discriminated against on disability grounds. The decision was dated 11 December 2024.

The complaint concerned a family’s attempt to board an 11am Dublin Airport to Waterford bus. The adjudicator found that passengers booked on the later service were given priority ahead of the family, contrary to the company’s procedures. The company disputed the claims and said its driver followed procedures.

The WRC rejected the complaints of race discrimination and race harassment arising from a later bus journey. It found the driver’s remark was inappropriate but was not related to race.
