WRC awards cleaner €605 for outstanding annual leave

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Queen Of Clean Services Ltd to pay Monica Stockenstrom €405 for outstanding annual leave and a further €200 in compensation. The decision, dated 19 September 2024, found her complaint well-founded. Stockenstrom said she had taken five days of leave during her employment, which ended on 5 April 2024, but was still owed leave when she left. The adjudicator calculated that 22.5 additional hours were due, based on about 750 hours worked and leave already taken. The company did not attend the hearing; it had sought an adjournment that morning, saying it needed more time to gather information, and had emailed that Stockenstrom had taken some leave. The adjudicator said the company had not paid the outstanding leave despite being advised it was owed, and ordered the additional compensation.
