WRC recommends €8,192 for Administrator dismissed after objecting to proposed changes

The WRC recommended that the Commercial Vehicle Testing Centre pay an Administrator €8,192 after finding serious flaws in the process used to dismiss her. The recommendation was dated 15 November 2024. The worker said proposed roster changes would cut her hours from 32 a week to two days, and that she objected after leaving full-time work to take the job. The employer said the changes were intended to meet business needs and described the working relationship after discussions as toxic. The adjudication officer found that the dismissal followed the worker’s response to proposed unilateral changes to her contractual terms. She had not been told of performance issues, warned that her job was at risk, given the right to representation or offered an appeal. The officer recommended compensation equal to 16 weeks’ gross salary, in full and final settlement.
