The WRC recommended that an employer pay a worker €3,600 after finding his dismissal procedurally and substantively unfair. Adjudication Officer Christina Ryan made the recommendation, dated 4 March 2025. The worker said he was dismissed at a meeting on 26 March 2024 without warning, an investigation or a chance to respond. The employer denied the dispute. Its director attended the first hearing but not the resumed hearing, and it provided no oral evidence. Ryan found the worker’s account credible and said the employer disregarded fair procedures and natural justice. Ryan also recommended that the employer review its HR practices and provide management training. She accepted that the worker made reasonable efforts to limit his losses and took three months to earn approximately the same wages.
