The Workplace Relations Commission has awarded Leanne McGuinness €12,480 after finding that Eurotech Renewables Limited discriminated against her in connection with her maternity leave. The decision was dated 15 May 2025.

McGuinness said she was not allowed to return to her former administration manager role after maternity leave and was placed on lay-off. She described an alternative receptionist role as a demotion. The company said business difficulties led to temporary lay-offs and denied discrimination.

The adjudication officer found McGuinness was placed on unpaid lay-off before other staff because of her maternity absence and was not permitted to return to her former role. The WRC upheld her discrimination complaint and awarded compensation for its effects.
