The Workplace Relations Commission found that letting agent Brendan Mannix discriminated against Una Broderick by failing to provide documents needed for her housing assistance payment application. It ordered him to pay €2,400 in compensation, equivalent to three months’ rent.
The WRC decision was dated 2 September 2024. Broderick said missing landlord documents caused her application to be returned incomplete and left her unable to receive HAP. Mannix said he tried to obtain the documents but lacked access to the landlord’s records.
The WRC found Mannix was the licensed agent responsible for letting the property in Castleisland, County Kerry, and therefore a service provider under the Equal Status Act. It concluded that the required documentation had not been provided and that the failure amounted to discrimination on the housing assistance ground.
