The Workplace Relations Commission found that Beta Bajgart’s working relationship with Radio Telefís Éireann (RTÉ) had become one of employment after more than 12 years as a stills photographer on Fair City. The WRC decision was dated 24 July 2025.

Bajgart said she worked three days a week and received weekly shot lists directing when she attended and what photographs she took. The WRC found that RTÉ’s control over her schedule and duties, her personal performance of the role, fixed weekly pay and continued work during contract gaps supported employee status. RTÉ argued she was an independent contractor, citing the tendered contracts and other features of their arrangement.

The decision resolved only the preliminary question of Bajgart’s employment status. The WRC did not decide her eight complaints, which include claims under fixed-term work, working-time, terms-of-employment and unfair-dismissal laws, and recorded no award. The merits of those complaints were not decided.
