The Workplace Relations Commission found Cork County Council did not breach the Payment of Wages Act when it recouped a transitional payment from Alex O'Donovan’s wages. The decision was dated 28 May 2024.
O'Donovan said the council retained €2,153.98 from his pay when his employment ended and that he had not agreed to the deduction in writing. The council said the recoupment formed part of a transitional payment arrangement agreed with unions. The adjudication officer found O'Donovan had been informed of the arrangement in advance and that his contract authorised the deduction.
