The Workplace Relations Commission found Gabor Szocs’s Equal Status complaint against Fingal County Council Housing Department not well founded. Adjudication officer David James Murphy issued the decision, dated 6 September 2024.
Szocs said he had spent more than 13 years on the social housing waiting list and was treated differently because he did not qualify for additional priority grounds. He described his shared rental accommodation as unsuitable.
The council argued that the priority grounds came from housing allocation rules, rather than discrimination grounds covered by the Equal Status Acts. The adjudicator found Szocs had identified none of the Act’s prohibited grounds and said housing authorities must use allocation schemes, so they need not treat all applicants identically. The decision did not determine any entitlement to housing.
