The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Kinsella Building & Civils Ltd. to pay Daniel Barrett €1,000 compensation after finding it failed to provide written terms of employment when he started work. The decision was dated 29 July 2024. Barrett began work in August 2023 and resigned in January 2024. The company accepted that no written terms were in place when he started; it said a contract was drafted later but was not given to him before he left. The WRC said employers must provide core terms in writing within five days and a written statement within a month. Two other complaints were not well founded. The WRC rejected his wage-deduction complaint after finding the company was entitled to recover €1,075 for training costs under an agreement Barrett had signed. It also found the training was for career progression, rather than mandatory for his groundworker role.
