The Workplace Relations Commission found Sean Connolly’s age discrimination complaint against Pepper Finance Corporation (Ireland) DAC not well founded. The decision was dated 23 February 2026.
Connolly said the 13-year mortgage term he took out in 2005 was set because of his age and that Pepper relied on that term when pursuing repossession proceedings. Pepper said it did not arrange the original mortgage and began enforcement after the loan term expired, when Connolly had not engaged with its requests to discuss repayment options.
The WRC found no evidence that Pepper’s repossession action was attributable to Connolly’s age or that he was treated less favourably than someone of a different age in comparable circumstances. It also found that the 2005 mortgage terms fell outside the statutory time limits. The complaint was not well founded; the merits were not decided.
