The Workplace Relations Commission found Eamon Loughran entitled to a statutory redundancy payment after deciding his tree-services job had been made redundant. The payment is based on a gross weekly wage of €729, subject to a statutory €600 ceiling, and to his having been in insurable employment during the relevant period. Adjudication Officer Penelope McGrath issued the decision dated 5 July 2024. Loughran had joined Kevin Mathews t/a Tree Services in July 2020. Mathews agreed that Loughran’s position no longer existed and said he had intended to bring him back when more work became available, but that did not happen. The officer noted that Mathews had not replaced Loughran or his colleagues, and found their positions had been made redundant. Loughran withdrew four other complaints, concerning working time, wages, unfair dismissal and maternity protection. The decision gives the weekly wage basis for the redundancy payment but does not set out a lump-sum figure.
