The Workplace Relations Commission found that Adam Haskins was not unfairly dismissed after he resigned before completing his employer’s grievance process. The decision, dated 1 May 2024, followed a complaint against Meadowfield Facility Services Limited (Amended on consent). Haskins said delays in investigating workplace concerns left him with no choice but to resign. The company said it was investigating his grievance and had arranged a meeting after receiving confirmation he could take part. The adjudicator found the meeting was scheduled reasonably quickly and that Haskins’s three-day deadline for an outcome over Christmas was unreasonable. The adjudicator also found that the proposed severance payment was probably the overriding factor in Haskins’s decision to resign. He concluded that Haskins had acted unreasonably by resigning without exhausting the grievance procedure.
