The Workplace Relations Commission found Damien Fitzgerald entitled to a statutory redundancy payment after his employment with Crosslane Digital Ltd ended in 2022. The decision, dated 14 February 2024, made the entitlement conditional on his having been in insurable employment during the relevant period. Fitzgerald worked for the company from 1 June 2007 and had gross weekly pay of €519.29. His employment ended on 21 June 2022 after he was laid off due to Covid. The Commission also dismissed his separate complaint under the Protection of Employment Act 1977 as misconceived. The Act concerns collective redundancies, and proceedings under it are brought by the Minister rather than the WRC.
