The Workplace Relations Commission found that Emma Doyle was unfairly dismissed by Annie's Corner Limited and awarded her €1,170 in compensation. The decision was dated 8 March 2024. Doyle, a part-time waitress and college student, said she had taken leave to prepare for her final exams and expected to return to work. Her employer said she had resigned and was on probation when she came back. The adjudication officer found Doyle had not resigned and that she had continuity of service. The employer did not tell her all the allegations or give her an adequate chance to respond before dismissing her. The officer found the dismissal process unfair, but said Doyle had made limited efforts to find new work. The award was six weeks' pay, calculated at an average of €195 a week.
