The Workplace Relations Commission found Gavin Byrne’s unfair dismissal and unpaid competition prize complaints against Poundland Limited, trading as Dealz, not well founded. Adjudication Officer Jim Dolan’s decision was dated 10 November 2025.

Byrne challenged his dismissal, alleging flaws in the investigation and disciplinary and appeal procedures. Dealz said he was dismissed for gross misconduct after an incident involving alleged abusive language and intimidating behaviour toward colleagues, and maintained its process was fair and the dismissal proportionate. The WRC noted a previous final written warning, the investigation and disciplinary process, and the unsuccessful appeal before rejecting the complaint.

Byrne also claimed an unpaid prize from a company sales competition. Dealz said the prizes were discretionary and that Byrne had not taken part in the event’s quiz or draw. The WRC concluded competition prizes were not wages under the Payment of Wages Act and rejected the complaint. No award was recorded.
