WRC finds St Patrick’s Hospital calculated redundancy payment correctly

The Workplace Relations Commission found that St Patrick’s Hospital correctly calculated Derek Darbey’s statutory redundancy payment. The decision, dated 5 December 2023, dismissed his complaint under the Redundancy Payments Act. Darbey argued that pay increases should have been included in the calculation of his redundancy package. The adjudicator found the statutory payment of €14,376 was correct under the legal earnings ceiling. The complaint concerned statutory redundancy; the adjudicator said there was no authority to consider his separate claim for a wage increase under the Redundancy Payments Act.
