The Workplace Relations Commission found against Idalina Diniz Marciel in her discrimination complaints against Sligo County Council over access to social housing. Adjudication Officer Janet Hughes dated the decision 4 July 2024.
Marciel said she had waited years for council housing and believed Irish applicants had been housed while she was passed over. The council said it applied its allocation rules, with priority depending on the criteria and available homes.
The housing assistance complaint was dismissed as misconceived because the people Marciel compared herself with also received housing support. Her nationality complaint was not well founded: the officer found she had not established facts from which discrimination could be presumed. The complaints were decided on their merits.
