The Workplace Relations Commission awarded security guard John Moran €5,000 after finding that Security At Risk Group Limited Sar Group discriminated against him on age grounds and victimised him. The decision was dated 19 January 2024.

The officer found that Moran waited about 10 weeks for work after an incident at a hospital emergency department, and that the respondent had not adequately explained the delay. The company said it removed him from the site as a duty-of-care measure and offered alternative work.

The WRC also upheld claims for unpaid minimum pay, a public holiday and breaks, awarding €3,715 gross and €500 compensation for the pay breach, €303.60 gross and €100 compensation for the holiday breach, and €200 compensation for the breaks breach. These payments remain separate because gross wages and compensation are different types of award. Two other complaints, concerning continuity of service and written notice of changed terms, were not well founded.
