The Workplace Relations Commission directed Ur Insurances (Europe) Ltd Actual Insurances to pay former salesperson Alan Rooney €2,138.58 after finding it unlawfully deducted the money from his final wages. The decision was dated 11 March 2024. Rooney said he had not received his February 2023 salary and disputed the firm’s claim that earlier commissions were overpayments. The firm said he had a €4,932 sales-target deficit and sought to recover commissions it had paid. The adjudication officer found the commissions had been paid for performance in particular months, not as overpaid wages, and there was no basis to say Rooney owed the firm €4,932. The complaint was well founded.
