WRC awards IT worker €1,200 over unfair redundancy procedure

The WRC awarded an IT worker €1,200 after finding that the procedure used to make him redundant was unfair. The decision was dated 1 September 2023. The web design company said financial pressure and the loss of a client project led it to make two roles redundant. The adjudication officer accepted that the redundancy was necessary to secure the company’s survival, but found the worker had no warning or chance to suggest alternatives before his dismissal. She said a three-to-four-week consultation period should have preceded it.
