The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Roisin O'Hanlon €13,880 after finding she was unfairly dismissed by Orlagh Gp Limited Orlagh House. The decision, dated 25 October 2023, also ordered €1,735 for a separate complaint about failing to provide an updated contract.
O'Hanlon said her bookings and operations duties were taken over after new managers were hired, and that her redundancy was unfair. The company said her role was redundant because of business difficulties and changed duties, and that it tried to discuss alternatives with her.
The adjudicator found the redundancy evidence unconvincing and said the new managers progressively took over O'Hanlon's role. The relationship breakdown was the root cause of ending her employment, and the redundancy procedures were deficient. The unfair dismissal award was equivalent to 16 weeks' pay. The separate contract award was equivalent to two weeks' pay.
