The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Peter Lawrence €3,000 in statutory notice pay after finding his former employer had not paid the four weeks’ notice he was due. The WRC decision was dated 21 February 2024. Lawrence worked as a painter decorator for Brian Keenan Decorators Ltd from 2016 until his employment ended in January 2023. He said he was owed wages, overtime, public-holiday pay, annual-leave pay and notice pay. The company did not attend the hearing, despite receiving notice. The WRC awarded €2,250 for three weeks’ unpaid wages, including two weeks worked and one week of annual leave. It also awarded €1,050 for unpaid public-holiday and annual-leave pay. The overtime element of the wages complaint was not upheld because it fell outside the period the WRC could consider.
