WRC rejects race discrimination complaint against Glanmire credit union

The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Adetokunboh Olanrewaju’s race discrimination complaint against Glanmire and District Credit Union Limited. The decision was dated 22 August 2023. Olanrewaju said the credit union reported his loan details to the Central Credit Register in 2019 while other members’ details were not reported, and that his Nigerian heritage was apparent from his name. The credit union said it was legally required to report all outstanding loans over €500, regardless of race. The officer found that records showed loan details for all members had been reported to the register since 2017 and that Olanrewaju had not established a prima facie case of discrimination. The WRC found the credit union did not engage in prohibited conduct under the Equal Status Acts.
