The Workplace Relations Commission found that Xinshuo Jiang’s complaint against Campus Accommodation (Ucc) Dac was not well founded. The decision, dated 9 July 2024, concerned his accommodation at Victoria Mills in Cork.
Jiang said he received less favourable accommodation because his Block C room was unrenovated while other blocks had been updated. He also said Chinese students were grouped together there because of their race or nationality.
The accommodation provider denied discrimination. It said Chinese students were housed together at the booking agent’s request amid differing Covid policies in 2022. The adjudicator accepted that explanation and found no less favourable treatment on the race ground. The complaint was not well founded.
