WRC finds Travelling Community member’s benefits complaint against government department not well founded

The WRC found that a Travelling Community member’s complaint alleging discrimination by A Government Department over the administration of benefits was not well founded. The complainant did not attend the hearing, and the decision was dated 24 April 2024. The complainant’s representative argued that the case could proceed in the complainant’s absence. The WRC refused an application to adjourn and found that sworn evidence establishing facts from which discrimination could be presumed had not been given. It found that the department had not engaged in prohibited conduct. The complainant did not attend; the merits were not decided.
