WRC rejects disability discrimination complaint over housing accommodation

By Gráinne Nolan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The WRC found that a local authority did not discriminate against a complainant on grounds of disability or fail to provide reasonable accommodation. The decision was dated 8 November 2023. The complainant’s gender and civil status claims were withdrawn at the hearing.

The complainant said the accommodation offered did not meet his mobility and access needs. The authority said he had refused several offers, qualified for HAP and had not provided an up-to-date occupational therapy assessment.

The adjudication officer noted that the authority had requested an updated assessment but had not received one. The evidence also did not establish how close the complainant needed to be to public transport or how far he could walk.
