Alaa Shehata was awarded €2,801.40 in arrears after a WRC adjudication officer upheld his complaint that he was underpaid while working as a fisher on an Irish trawler. The decision was dated 11 October 2023. Shehata said the hours in his work records were inaccurate and sought unpaid minimum wages. His employer, D & N Kirwan Ltd, said its records were accurate and that it had paid the National Minimum Wage. The officer accepted Shehata’s evidence as more credible, upheld his complaint and directed the employer to pay €2,801.40 in arrears.
