Pobal was ordered to pay Carla Gahan €10,638.84 after the Workplace Relations Commission found the organisation discriminated against her by withdrawing an existing reduced-hours arrangement without a clear explanation. The decision was dated 8 March 2024.
Gahan, a Contact Adviser, said Pobal refused her return to part-time work despite occupational health advice that she could work reduced hours. Pobal said her role was full-time, the reduced-hours arrangement was temporary and it had given written notice of the change.
The adjudication officer ordered compensation for loss up to the date the complaint was received. Gahan’s separate complaint that she had not been notified in writing of a change to her employment terms was found not well founded. A further equality complaint was dealt with under the first complaint.
