The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Pierce Parker’s Equal Status complaint after he alleged discrimination when his gym membership was terminated. Adjudication Officer David James Murphy dated the decision 28 November 2024. Parker said the termination was racially motivated and also alleged discrimination on grounds of family status, age and gender.
The officer found Parker had not shown that the complaints against him were racially motivated and had not explained the other alleged grounds. After hearing Parker’s evidence, the officer concluded that the complaint was misconceived, vexatious or made in bad faith and dismissed it under section 22(1) of the Equal Status Acts 2000-2018.
The respondent, an employee of UCD Campus Sports & Leisure Ltd whose name was anonymised in the decision, was absent through illness; her legal team attended.
