The Workplace Relations Commission found there was no jurisdiction to hear William Shorten’s Equal Status complaint against Government member Catherine Martin T.D., and the complaint did not succeed. The decision was dated 6 September 2023; the merits were not decided. Shorten said the Government sold him an apartment through the Affordable Housing Scheme, with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council acting as its agent. He alleged about €5 million in structural defects and a further €1 million in water-ingress and fire-safety repairs. Martin argued the complaint was outside the Act’s jurisdiction and that she was a stranger to the property allegations.
