The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Joselyn King €12,000 after finding discrimination and harassment connected with her request to use the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) scheme. The decision was dated 6 April 2023.
King and her partner, Piotr Pedzisz, rented a home from Lisa & Michael Furlong. King said the respondents refused HAP and that harassment followed. The respondents said the dispute concerned the tenancy and rent, not HAP.
The WRC found that the refusal to accept HAP initiated the later tenancy disputes, and that discrimination and harassment against King took place. It described the harassment as particularly egregious. The €12,000 award was compensation for the effects of the statutory rights violations.
