The Workplace Relations Commission found Bartlomiej Zarzycki’s discrimination complaint against Newbridge Post Office not well founded after a dispute over a face mask. The decision, dated 5 January 2023, concerned his visit to the post office on 8 October 2021.

Zarzycki said he was medically exempt and felt publicly humiliated when staff asked him to show proof. The postmaster said he became aggressive and that masks were required in retail premises. Zarzycki was served at the counter.

The adjudication officer found no evidence establishing a qualifying disability and no information that would allow the postmaster to accommodate it. The officer also found no prima facie case under the goods and services complaint, noting that Zarzycki had been served. A prima facie case means enough initial evidence to support a claim; the WRC found none and concluded that discrimination had not been shown.
