The Workplace Relations Commission did not allow Colette Walsh’s appeal over a redundancy payment, in a decision dated 17 January 2023. Walsh said she was dismissed by T.U.D. on redundancy grounds in September 2021 and had not received a payment. T.U.D. said the course she taught was cancelled because of low registrations, but that it offered her suitable alternative teaching hours. The officer criticised the delay in telling Walsh about the cancellation and the late contact about alternative work, but found that she did not engage with attempts to discuss the offers. The WRC concluded that T.U.D. acted reasonably in offering suitable work and seeking consultation, and did not allow the appeal.
