The Workplace Relations Commission found Catherine Igbrude’s race-discrimination complaint against Endoval Limited was not well founded. The decision was dated 31 January 2023.
Igbrude worked as a technical manager in microbiology. She said the company’s managing director twice referred to her race while discussing her pay. The company denied making those remarks and said there were concerns about her work during probation. The adjudicator noted the parties gave conflicting accounts and there were no witnesses to the alleged remarks.
The adjudicator found evidence of performance issues and workplace disagreements about workload and work quality. The decision found that Igbrude had not established facts giving rise to an inference of race discrimination, and dismissed the complaint as not well founded.
