The Workplace Relations Commission found that Northern Trust Ireland did not discriminate against Paul Rice on the disability ground in connection with his dismissal. The decision was dated 3 October 2023.
Rice, a Senior Analyst, said he wanted to return to work and believed the company could have found him another role. Northern Trust Ireland accepted he was dismissed but denied discrimination.
The officer found the company had consulted Rice about medical advice and a phased return, considered alternatives and temporarily assigned him other duties. The officer concluded that Northern Trust Ireland had provided reasonable accommodation, but that Rice remained unable to do the work. A related unfair dismissal claim was withdrawn.
