WRC rejects Carphone Warehouse worker’s part-time treatment complaint

The WRC found Shereen Mahomed’s complaint against The Carphone Warehouse Limited Currys not well founded. In a decision dated 24 April 2024, Adjudication Officer Patricia Owens said Mahomed had not identified an appropriate full-time comparator, as required for her part-time worker claim. The adjudicator also found that the events she complained of fell outside the six-month time limit. Mahomed said she had been denied additional hours and removed from a Brand Ambassador role despite working more than her eight-hour contract. The company said her college timetable and limited availability, store staffing needs and the role’s requirement for regular store presence explained its decisions. Her employment ended by redundancy in May 2021.
