WRC awards G4s security guard €560 in salary for leave week

The Workplace Relations Commission directed G4s Secure Solutions (Ire) Limited to pay security guard Suldan Shamsudin €560 in salary for a week wrongly treated as annual leave. The decision was dated 21 August 2023. It upheld his Payment of Wages complaint but found his safety and equality complaints not well founded. Shamsudin was assigned to monitor a side gate during torrential rain on 2 November 2020 without heavy-duty rain gear, so he retreated to his car. He said he was then suspended and lost work. The respondent said it tried to have him reinstated at the client site, but the client refused. The officer found Shamsudin had been told he was on paid suspension and had not requested annual leave for the following week. The officer was not satisfied that the respondent had subjected him to ongoing discrimination or penalisation.
