WRC rejects shopper’s discrimination complaint over mask dispute

The Workplace Relations Commission found that SuperValue Daly's did not discriminate against Siofra O'Donovan in a dispute over mask wearing and staff conduct. The decision was dated 11 October 2022. O'Donovan said a staff member told her to social distance and the manager did not acknowledge her medical mask exemption. The store said she was not refused entry or service and apologised for her shopping experience. The adjudicator found O'Donovan entered the shop and bought goods on both occasions. He said that although she found the staff’s attitude unpleasant, it did not amount to discrimination. The complaint was not well founded and failed.
