The Workplace Relations Commission found Tony Roche’s complaint that Road Safety Operations Ireland Limited Go Safe denied him statutory rest breaks was not well founded. The decision was dated 1 March 2023. Roche said tight scheduling between mobile speed-camera monitoring sessions made it difficult to take breaks and that he could not leave the vehicle. The employer said staff received breaks, could leave their vehicles to stretch and get fresh air, and could record any missed break for a manager. Roche completed weekly timesheets that recorded breaks, but disputed that he had actually received them. The adjudication officer found the employer’s evidence more compelling and did not accept that Roche had been denied his statutory rest breaks.
