The Workplace Relations Commission found Ronan Dunne was unfairly dismissed by Mason Hayes and Curran LLP and ordered the firm to pay him €17,150. The decision was dated 3 February 2022. The firm accepted that the dismissal was procedurally unfair and did not provide evidence to defend the complaint.
Dunne said colleagues had made negative comments, his work allocation fell, and he was advised to consider resigning before receiving a termination letter. He provided evidence of efforts to reduce his losses and had taken a new role at a slightly higher salary.
The adjudicator considered reinstatement and re-engagement impractical and chose compensation. Dunne had also withdrawn his constructive-dismissal complaint and three complaints concerning redundancy.
